Somatic Release is a trauma-informed hands-on healing modality.
We hold trauma in our bodies. Somatic Release is a way to address this part of trauma directly by using mindfulness and your body’s innate wisdom to heal itself. Together we find places of holding and stuckness in your body, and use mindfulness techniques and gentle touch to facilitate release and encourage your body to return to balance.
Somatic Release helps you find ease and flow in your body and mind. Using your brain's power to change itself, you create new positive neural pathways. These new neural pathways create a new way of being that does not need the protection of the trauma responses of fight, flight of freeze.
The first sense we develop in the womb is our sense of touch. Gentle touch brings us back to these feelings of safety and when we feel safe, we can allow our body to heal itself, release old emotions, and change patterns of constriction in our tissues and organs. Somatic Release also incorporates the practice of Hanna Somatics. This mindfulness-through-movement technique uses gentle movements to release tension from your body and mind. If you feel disconnected from your body, these movements allow you to reconnect with it by noticing the sensations of ease and comfort while moving while helping you undo the negative effects trauma has had on your movement and posture. During this session you will alsolearn techniques you can use yourself to maintain a sense of safety in your body and mind. Somatic Release sessions are 2 hours long and mostly take place on a bodywork table.
